Enabling works

Atkins is providing the engineering design and delivery of the site-wide enabling works to support the development of London 2012 facilities and their legacy transformation on the Olympic Park.

The scope of the enabling works includes excavation, cleaning and re-use of two million cubic metres of material across the 246ha site. London 2012 recycling policies have meant that 90% of the materials arising from the demolition works were reclaimed or recycled.

Working with appointed consultants and stakeholders has also facilitated the translocation of indigenous species, flora and fauna and the creation of over 1ha of new habitat in the Park.

Our work includes:

  • Site investigation
  • Demolition and clearance
  • Soil washing
  • Groundwater treatment
  • Bulk earthworks
  • River wall repair and replacement
  • Temporary construction of roads and bridges
  • Archaeology
  • Eradication and treatment of invasive weeds
