Atkins has provided consultancy and programme management services for the UK Department for Transport’s complex Shared Services Programme.

Our primary responsibility was initially for the delivery of the Shared Service Centre and the migration of two agencies - the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and the Driving Standards Agency.

Atkins has extensive programme management experience and in-depth knowledge of shared service solutions in Government. Following definition of the implementation phases of the programme, our consultants led a re-planning exercise to agree aggressive delivery deadlines. The governance model was reviewed and revised to ensure strict accountability and responsibility. Strong controls on financial expenditure and resource management were also applied to meet agreed budgets. The team assisted in the stability of the Shared Service Centre, benefits management and realisation, together with supporting the preparation and planning of future migrations.
